Jack Lalanne, 60 Minutes, and the truth about Sugar and Obesity

60 minutes sugar presentation

60 Minutes televised a segment about new research findings concerning the negative effects of sugar. These findings have been claimed as breakthrough and I find this hard to believe. In the U.S., we live in a society that is deemed over 50% obese and our food choices are filled with an abundance of sugar. Do we really need science to give us a definitive answer about the negative effects of sugar before we make a change as a society?

Financially funded long years of research has told us what we have known all along. Have we chosen to neglect the truth? The truth we knew well over fifty years ago…

Jack Lalanne lived a healthy lifestyle till the age of 96 and was an advocate against sugar and processed foods. He achieved great feats in old age that youthful people could only dream of doing. He talked about eating healthy to live healthy well over 50 years ago and science has finally proven him right.

**1984 (age 70): handcuffed, shackled, and fighting strong winds and currents, towed 70 rowboats, one with several guests, from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary, 1 mile.

The truth is that Jack Lalanne was right about the negative effects of sugar all along and people have been prospering from his humanitarian efforts since the beginning. He brought popularity to exercise and developed gyms that transformed the American lifestyle (Bally’s Total Fitness).

Jack Lalanne was a pioneer and a leader. He brought us the gift of living a healthier life and by extension, a more fruitful existence. Those who implemented his advice have flourished and those who denied his advice in exchange for a quick fix of sugar have paid a dear price.

The ability to postpone gratification has time and again been a proven component for living successfully.

We need to pay tribute to a great leader, Jack Lalanne, who cared about the health of our people. He spread his knowledge to the masses without waiting decades for approval from scientific research to provide insurmountable evidence.

Leaders accept the truth and act responsibly on behalf of others. Leadership begins with the self and the ability to control instant gratification is an indicator of inner strength. This inner strength creates an echoing effect on everyone within contact.

Jack Lalanne touched the lives of us all and needs the recognition he deserves as a great leader and pioneer.”

Adapt to Thrive and Survive

bruce lee be like water my friend

“Be like water, my friend” – Bruce Lee

A radical idea at the time that predated the legend of the dragon and a phrase that ignited the phenomenon of mixed martial arts.  “Be like water, my friend” is a simple, yet complex statement that changed the thinking and behaviors of millions of people. Bruce Lee was a revolutionary; a forward thinker who died before his prime and has been enshrined as a legend. He understood the law of adapting on a deeper level through self-experimentation, deep personal insight, and a superior level of self-awareness.

He was a study of one and he shared his findings with the world. The public has generally accepted and adopted his methods after decades of thorough research. Bruce Lee was right, we do need to be like water and adapt to our situation. If we are a metal then we bend and break; if we are wood then we will burn and if we are a plastic then we will melt. We need to go with the flow of life and react when there is an opportunity. We need to be brave and patient during challenging times.

The future is dependent on what Earth lets us have and we will have to conform to the new changes that will occur in the future. Prosperity and enlightenment take place during times when the Earth is pleasant and happy.  Global warming is presenting a conflicting circumstance and we need to be prepared to adapt. We need to be prepared for a change in our living habits and those who do not adapt to what the Earth will allow us to have will perish.

We as individuals can accept the truth whether there has been decades of expensive research or if one person has come up with the answer. The truth is the truth. Yes we need proof, but sometimes we need to go with our instinct and enact the truth into our lives. We do not need to wait for others to give us the green light or to follow the crowd of early adopters.

Bruce Lee was a leader because he influenced people to be better. He had the courage to present his revolutionary ideas and was brave enough to enter a foreign world without knowing he would be accepted. People are doing incredible things today that the rest of the world has yet to learn about and we will learn about the value of these new ways in the future. The world is changing and there will be opportunities to present your novel ideas. Will you have the courage and bravery needed to lead out front with the whole world watching and criticizing? Will you be able to be adaptable like water and express the heart of a leader?

These abilities to lead are within us all and we all have the power to be like water. We are made mostly of water and water is our will to survive. Without water we would die. “Be like water, my friend”.

Twitter Uncensored

What you talkin bout Willis | Twitter Uncensored

What happened to Freedom of Speech? Social media is an extension of our social freedom of speech. Amazon was recently regulated to pay taxes. They had a previous unfair competitive advantage for years because of slow Internet regulations regarding sales tax.

The connection is this: our freedom of speech is compromised when using social media. The written word has multiple meanings depending on who is interpreting the information. This leads to miscommunication and unavoidable conflict. People’s thoughts and opinions are shared on the world’s social medium and they have a free right to their opinion; regardless of who disagrees, regardless of hurt feelings, and regardless of what is right or wrong.

People in the public eye have fallen victim to unfortunate criticisms for their shared beliefs. Congress needs to act on extending our freedom of speech to social media and either grant full inclusion or create a system with asterisks. An asterisk that I am in favor of would be threats of physical harm on another person and direct bullying. I’m sure there are others, but those are the first two that stand out.

People are conducting private conversations in public and their words are analyzed and reinterpreted into a meaning that fits into the viewer’s belief system. We find what we are looking for and if you look hard enough you will see it. A statement meant a certain way can be taken completely out of context and innocent people’s careers could end up destroyed.

Final words: When people believe in something that goes against what we believe in; that does not make what they believe in wrong. People are entitled to their opinions, and should not be publicly humiliated. It is not okay to perpetrate defamation of character on someone because we disagree with them or what they have said. It is okay to share our opposing beliefs and all people should feel free to express themselves without fearing retribution.

We all have different opinions and that is what makes us human. We need to start to learn to accept this fact and use it to our advantage.

In short: Be careful what you share in public, because it can, and will, be used against you, in a court of law, at work, against your family, and in a public forum, until Congress acts on our behalf.

Batman Murders and Public Accountability

First, to be clear, I detest the murders of innocent people. I will refrain from mentioning names due to my beliefs.

These people are motivated to kill because of the need to be famous. Their efforts are rewarded with immense notoriety that our society cast upon them. They’re transformed into instant rock stars basting in rays of public attention that over-feed their insatiable egotistical appetite.

We make serial killers into legends and their stories transcend generations. They make front page news worldwide with their photo plastered dead-center to stain their faces into public memory. Documentaries are created and media blitzes are centered on their new movie.

This incentivizes these people who hide in darkness to reach out, kill our loved ones and innocent people, like you and I. The public attraction to the abnormal and thrusting these killers into the spotlight only motivates others to entertain the idea of being a copycat.

We know who killed President Lincoln but not the names of those who gave their lives for fairness and justice.

Leaders need to make culture changing decisions, and we, the public, have to embrace this change in the name of freedom. Innocent people do not deserve to die and by giving our attention and focus to these malicious actions only enhances the power of darkness. We are spreading their work, their evil intentions, and destructive impact into the mass of influential minds. These killers are motivated by gaining fame and our society meets their needs. The message they receive is “kill to fulfill your monstrous ego”.

We need to make a change instead of rewarding this behavior – We NEED to punish it.

The solution is for us to erase them and their existence from memory. Their legacy should not be carried on and only a record of criminality should remain. We should not glorify these criminal actions, but rather, we should band together and empower our innocent victims. Any of us at anytime could become the victim of a tragic circumstance and this is a blunt reality. We need to identify the contributing factors and limit their impact to protect our families and each other. We need to destroy all materials about former infamous killers and stop idolizing them and their actions. This is a contributing factor that motivates these well planned attacks on our innocent.

We endorse mothers who kill their kids with our attention. Everyone is well aware of that case because the media covered the story 24 hours a day which granted this person freedom and the ability to become a millionaire. That is not justice and is unconsciously telling the public a storyline that should not exist. This was created by a joint effort. Watching and spreading the message is contributing to the final result. We need to take a stand. The media publicizes news that we collectively watch. If we turn it off, as a country, and make a statement, then this form of glorifying will steadily disappear. We all have a say and together we can make a complete change.

Our society is modernized and we have due process. If not, a public display of an “eye for an eye” would send a powerful message to potential wrongdoers and help protect our innocent. I start to understand the barbarianism of public killings in history because it sent a message. “You do what this person did and you will find yourself in the same place” or “Go ahead, Make my Day”.

A current example of erasing a legacy when someone creates or allows harm is Penn State’s Joe Paterno. The NCAA removed over 1,000 wins which prevents him from being the most all-time winning coach in college football history, and his Alma Mata, Brown University, removed him from their notable alumni list.

This is a great first step and sets a precedent. This sends a strong message to potential predators – (when you are caught you will be punished). This is a form of protection for our innocent children.

The problem is, the offending actions were only acknowledged as wrong after a court of law proclaimed a guilty verdict instead of before the crimes took place. Hopefully, we will start to see more of these grandstand actions taken against criminals of this magnitude and our culture will learn to punish instead of reward.
