Shared Thought Creates Reality

shared vision creates reality Deliberate thought is a human gift – a competitive advantage of some sorts. Our thoughts control our actions. Though mystical powers are not likely present in our thoughts; the power of our individual thoughts impacts our behavior and the behavior of others around us.

Our vision of the future can be communicated unconsciously and non-verbally creating a shared vision. Carl Jung theorized about a collective unconscious where people in close vicinity pick-up each other’s thoughts without speaking.

Positive thinking stems from the Protestant reformation and the concept was independently published beginning in 1889 by Prentice Mulford with his book titled “Thoughts are Things”.

The repetition of the positive thinking concept provides evidence that there is value in this process of thinking. Anyway, who would want to think negatively all of the time?

shared thought creates reality in society, culture and in lifeMost of the world we live in is of human construct. Our reality is more imaginatively structural than it is physical. Concepts, laws, hierarchies, obedience, etc. are all shared vision which is how our thoughts play a role in our society. Society, culture, and social economics are virtually a shared mental construct.

An example of a physical construct is jail and is meant to punish by not allowing mental abilities to thrive.

Our thoughts are our gifts to our families, friends, cultures, work, societies, and reverberates in a continued shared pattern throughout the world.

Our thoughts are like viruses and when shared with a select majority, a tipping point is created that allows those thoughts to manifest social belief and become viral.

We are creating reality as we live and we are the only species that can do that.

Our lives are constructed through our thoughts.

Daily schedules are created through thought.

Learning is based on thought.

Thought is the engine of innovation.

Thought is the generator of decisions.

Thought is the competitive advantage that we all share.

The power of thought is often underestimated,
and when you can get an entire group to buy-in to the same ideology the power can be exponential.
As a leader you need to be able to get everyone on the same page and path, and learning this ability can start at an educational institution like Saint Mary’s University Online

Leadership coaching is about enhancing leadership skills and abilities by enhancing the leader within. Targeting and understanding the underlying processes that make us tick creates a necessary awareness that enables superior leadership. All leadership is not equal and the correct developmental process separates the good from the great. We develop great leaders.

This is a free service offered to touch the lives of developing leaders. We believe that everyone is capable of being a leader and that leadership begins with leading the self. The material we offer goes above and beyond the generic leadership content found on other leadership sites such as mission, vision, and tactics of leadership. Rather, we expand on these processes and include the real human aspect and psychological foundation of making a connection that by association inspires followers to go above and beyond what is required. Additionally, these writings are geared to elicit behaviors that make leaders more follower-friendly and attempt by diffusion to refine the skills needed to lead successfully.

Daily Choice is the “Real” Vote

voteLet’s not talk about politics, but let’s talk about your vote. You have a right to vote and your vote counts each and every day. Your choice is a vote and our collective vote determines the success and failure of businesses and initiatives alike. We collectively determine our future with the power of our vote.

We vote what foods will be marketed more effectively and our vote will determine which car company will thrive. For example, we are bombarded with McDonald’s commercials because we choose to spend our money at McDonald’s. You might be saying, “What came first, the chicken or the egg”? Well in this case, we are the chicken and we are giving permission to reproduce the egg. McDonald’s would not be able to afford advertisements without our vote of confidence. Our vote fuels our economy and if we choose to eat healthy then McDonald’s responds with a healthy menu.

We dictate what happens by way of our daily choice.

A choice to not choose is still a choice. This allows others to choose for you because you are considered a silent and permissive observer that will abide by any choice given to you. That is a choice that many choose (and not exactly the wrong choice depending on personal values).

Collectively we have chosen to allow big business to dictate and have allowed our debt to increase exponentially. We want to blame others for our problems but blame usually increases the problem instead of providing a solution.

We can only resolve the issue when we accept responsibility and commit to positive change. Our choice as citizens is our power to contribute to making our world a better place to live. Our choice is our voice about what we value and what we love to do. Our choice says everything about us and this is the basis for the saying, “Actions speak louder than words”.

We all need to take a longer look in our mirror and gain a better understanding of the reality we have chosen. We need to be brutally honest in order to form a solid foundation, and start, or continue to make the right choices because this is our message to the world about whom we are and where we are headed tomorrow by way of this moment’s vote.

Origins and Growth of Bullying

bullying statue of liberty

Bullying is a growing problem in our Internet age because people have more access to anonymously inflict pain on others through use of extensive media. We are all vulnerable and people of lesser ability and understanding are at a greater degree of risk. Bullying is unhealthy for both the bully and the victim.

Bullies are internally weak and thrive on possession of power over others. This power is short-lived and bullies constantly seek new victims to fulfill their need to be dominant. This dominance provides feedback to the bully’s ego that says they are strong and not as weak as they once perceived themselves to be.

People from all sectors are capable of becoming bullies. There are child bullies, manager bullies, teacher bullies, teenage bullies, parent bullies, you get the point. Bullying is derived from the “Need for Power” which was masterfully presented to the world by Harvard’s late David McClelland.

Bullying is a continuous 360 degree cycle.

Bullies fear being bullied. Bullying is learned from being the victim of or witnessing bullying. Bullies fear retribution and seek out easy targets. Managers bully the quiet subordinate. Kids bully the weaker kid who doesn’t stick up for themselves. Militarily stronger countries bully weaker countries. Bullying is part of human nature because we all have the need for power.

The greatest degree of bullying is Dictatorship – i.e. Adolf Hitler, Napoleon, Ivan the Terrible.

We all have the need for power but it does not need to become toxic. The toxic leaders above were once the victim or witness to bullying and learned their behavior. Today, people are increasingly becoming bullies out of fear of either being the victim or because of their toxic need for power.

We all have the ability to become a bully if the situation is conducive. We need to educate our children, co-workers, friends, associates, and ourselves about the dangers and implications of bullying. Bullying negatively affects our society and creates a dangerous negative feedback loop that is growing in size and strength. Our children are becoming the victims of bullying because bullies have learned this behavior from the adults in their lives. We need to be aware of our behaviors, lead by example, and have common courtesy and respect for our fellow people.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals Explained

Successful people create S.M.A.R.T. goals and people are successful because they create S.M.A.R.T. goals.  A true full circle – below is an outline of how you can apply S.M.A.R.T. goals to your process so you could enhance your success in a shorter amount of time and join the ranks of the Elite.

It all begins with an end goal in mind – A true desire – A need that you want to fill.  S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for creating a process to reach the end result with success.  Stress is produced when order turns into havoc and having a S.M.A.R.T. blueprint allows the goal to take on its own form of auto-pilot thus reducing associated stress.

S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.

Specific – I want to make a lot of money vs. I want to make 250k within the next 8 months.  A specific measuring point provides you a metric for success or failure and provides a solid mental structure that creates motivation and purpose.

Measurable – Daily, Weekly, Monthly metrics are important when measuring your progress to meet the end goal.  Developing a specific amount of time per day dedicated to making a specific amount of money will allow you to measure the difference between existing and needed amounts to reach the end goal.  These measurable structures allow you to create an automated trajectory to meet your end goal.  This will allow you to adjust your metrics along the journey in order to reach the desired target or to reduce the end goal to a more realistic outcome. “Things that get measured get done” – Peter Drucker

Attainable – Or in other words realistic – You will not go from earning no money to earning 10 billion every 6 months.  Although we would like to make drastic leaps in earning potential, this is not realistic.  Develop a realistic goal that can be achieved.  Coaches note: Don’t sell yourself short either – You can achieve great things with great effort – All things are possible if you believe in yourself, find the correct operations, and work hard and diligently to achieve your desired results.

Relevant – How does this goal apply to your life? Are you motivated to meet this goal? Do you own the goal? The importance of the goal in relation to your life satisfaction is optimal for applying yourself to completing your efforts. If there is no substantial benefit or improvement then why are you doing it anyway? Choose your goals strategically and make certain that you want to achieve the desired results and gain a full understanding on the rewards you will receive on your journey.

Timely – Start the countdown – Without a time limit, the goal accomplishment could go on indefinitely.  Without a future goal post to signal the end will inhibit your success by allowing daily distractions to interfere with your required efforts. Success is defined as meeting goals. Set a feasible target date to enhance commitment and focus and this is the final step in being S.M.A.R.T.

Negotiate like a Pro – Quick List of Negotiating Tips

Most people don’t like to negotiate - studies have shown that negotiation is the main  reason women receive less pay when compared to men in the workplace.  Negotiation does not always have to be sneaky or intimidating – especially if you know certain techniques.  Organizations want to know how well you can negotiate because this ability will serve the organizational cause in the future – If you are poor at negotiating then you will be perceived as a liability to the company and receive less money in the process.  Below are a few solid techniques to aid you in your development of negotiating skills and to earning a greater degree of respect from the other side.

  • Negotiations are time-bound and 80% of the action happens during the final 20% of the time
  • Strategy: Create additional demands during the final 20% of time to increase pressure
  • Enter negotiations with a full understanding of what you are willing to accept
  • Bring your requirements along with a list of unreasonable requests to create camouflage
  • Each side likes to win points and these unreasonable requests will serve you well during the final portion of negotiation
  • Make them seem important and do not show your hand – they will allow you to achieve your goal
  • Give up your unreasonable requests late in the negotiation so the other side will get a win and you could exchange for something important
  • Watch body language to see if it aligns with what is being said verbally – misalignment means a bluff or lie

Lead with Purpose

Mother Teresa, Gandhi, The Pope, Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington, all the great leaders in the stories that we have learned from are unique but not dissimilar to us.

Most people have the ability to be this great – Greatness is in the core of us all.  We are all born with similar traits that allow us to be great when we are ready to seize the opportunity.

Most people never take the opportunity because they either fear the unknown or lack enough confidence.  People hold themselves back – They don’t take the chances because they don’t understand their strengths.  Unfortunately, most people sadly follow the road that is dictated to them instead of dictating their own path in life.

How many people do you know that have followed in their father’s footsteps?

Why is not taking charge a common theme?

It’s not easy to make a choice – Most people won’t – Its hard making critical decisions – most people don’t have the confidence.  Choices are made for them instead of making choices for themselves.  It is safer to follow the crowd than to go alone into the unknown.

We praise our leaders because of their courage and because of their choices.  This greatness that we admire is in all of us – Same DNA, same human abilities, same mental structure.

The difference is the self-awareness of understanding strengths, recognizing weaknesses, and an ability to overcome fear.  Once these are recognized you can make your own decisions.

People are afraid to make the change – it becomes uncomfortable thinking about the unknown future – we try to create certainty.  Abraham Lincoln was the master of paradox and enshrined as one of the greatest leaders of all-time – we all have the ability to face fear and live in the paradox – most of us don’t have the courage to do it.

Why don’t we? What causes barriers?

Is it fear or uncertainty avoidance? Is it the need for safety?

History says if you don’t change you die – Evolution says you have to adapt to the new situation

I say, Lead with purpose, prevent problems by reacting before they happen instead of afterwards.  Don’t be a yes-man and follow the crowd – have a voice, be valuable, live your life the way you want.

Escape from Freedom?

Escape Freedom?

Normally we think of freedom as a concept we cling to for dear life instead of flee from, but Dr. Eric Fromm theorized that people escape from personal freedoms in order to feel secure.  Dr. Fromm determined that freedom is a central theme within human nature (Boeree, 2006).  Escaping freedom involves three processes that include clinging rigidly to an authoritarianism structural view of society which provides a source of stability and correctness that creates a foundation for determining clear correct decisions.  The second process is Self-destructive behaviors that effect everyone connected – Suicide is the most extreme form of destructiveness (Boeree, 2006). The third process of running from freedom is called automaton conformity.  Dr. Erich Fromm coined automaton conformity which describes individuals that hide like a chameleon behind their culture in a society of equality.

These behaviors are possibly learned from cultural history which involved conforming to the ruling power – Waiting to be told what to do instead of being proactive and creating innovation.  Current society possesses the ability to implement innovation and are encouraged to do so which is in great contrast to the majority of human history.  These ideas are presented to increase self-awareness concerning behaviors – Do you ever find yourself running from freedom? Hopefully, this will provide a new perspective for understanding the underlying reasons why people hold on rigidly to old beliefs.  We have the ability to break free of the limiting beliefs that have been passed down and create a new awareness that empowers us to be the leaders of our own lives.

Boeree, C. G., (2006) Personality theories
